Default Annual Letter to the new Teacher

I've previously mentioned that we (my son and I) produce a letter for his new teacher at the start of each year. The purpose of the letter is to firstly give the teacher a quick insight into my child and to subtly let her know what might trigger behavioural problems, as well as some tips on how to manage him.

Attached is a copy of one of those letters, to give you an idea of how your letter could look.

Until this year, I have written the letters myself, for obvious reasons, but it has always been written from the first person perspective as though my son wrote it. It has always been more successful to present information in this way because it seems to captivate the attention of the teacher longer than if I had written a bullet point list of issues. I suspect it's just more interesting when it's presented as a personal thing. This year my son told me what to write, and I simply typed his own words. His letter turned out to be very similar to my old ones.

Important note: the letter should not be relied upon all by itself as a way to communicate with the teacher. It's imperative that you follow it up with regular meetings where you can discuss various issues and give the teacher strategies. Sometimes we've been lucky with the teachers we've met, but sometimes they might not know what to do, and the damage can be exceedingly swift, with backslides being horrendous in effect.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing this letter with us , it should be very useful to all parents whose children have any form of special needs.
